The purchase of timber from sustainable sources, segregation of builders’ waste and recycling wherever possible are important areas under akp’s eco-friendly banner.  akp aims to achieve best possible practice of conscientious and sustainable environmental management.

Our social responsibility

  • by providing a better quality learning environment for staff
  • by implementing staff skills training and opportunities for training enhancement
  • by providing a truly socially inclusive recruitment policy and wherever possible recruit staff from local areas to sustain local level of skills and employment

Our responsibility to the environment

  • by taking into account environmental, sustainable and social issues that are applicable to purchase decisions of goods and services
  • by reducing our volume of waste to landfill, implement sound waste management practices, reduce the consumption of all materials and wherever practicable, to actively encourage and enforce recycling and re-use both construction and occupation
  • by implementing modern low energy methods of construction whilst being less wasteful, more efficient and reducing maintenance requirements
  • by endeavouring to attain ‘Good’ and preferably ‘Best’ practice targets for energy consumption
  • by ensuring that materials are  properly specified for use, taking account that the choice conforms to, where possible: lifecycle costing, avoiding a depletion of non renewable natural resources, low embodied energy and being non-toxic to both internal and external environment 

NCH Scotland

NCH logo NCH Scotland is one of the leading children's charities in Scotland. It supports over 6475 of the most vulnerable children, young people and their families at 64 projects across Scotland so that they have the opportunity to reach their full potential. In 2005, it celebrated 50 years of working to make this vision a reality in Scotland.

At akp we are committed to supporting NCH Scotland.  This year we are sponsoring,on Friday,5th September, the Gleneagles Golf Day for the third year running as well as attending several of their fundraising events,such as the excellent "Never Mind The Business" evening on 18th September,2008.
