The challenge was to undertake a 26 week full refurbishment of a Head Office whilst the building remained fully occupied and operational.
The programme demanded sectional completion where MDDUS would vacate distinct floors of the building and akp would carry out their works.
All rooms were totally refurbished with new air conditioning and new wall, floor and ceiling finishes.
The external fabric of the building was decorated requiring the use of a cherry-picker and permission from the City Council to occupy the public highway. In addition new air-conditioning plant had to be crane lifted onto the roof with new permanent edge protection installed.
Although the building had previously been altered only 10 years ago, it was fully refurbished to bring it up to date with latest technology.
MDDUS provides an advisory service for local doctors and dentists and they have a 24hr call centre. The telephone conversations are of the utmost confidentiality and therefore it was important that akp kept noise to a minimum.
There were many occasions when work was required to be undertaken out-of-hours. akp had to form a temporary reception to facilitate the influx of daily visitors that use the MDDUS offices.
The project was completed on time despite numerous variations being absorbed during the construction phase.
