PRESIDENTIAL ROLE FOR JAMES

2008

James Andrew, a Director with construction specialist akp, has been appointed Deputy-President of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce.

One of the city's most prestigious business positions, James, who has almost forty years experience in the building industry, took up his position on the 28th January 2008 and joins new President Claire Dunning of Dunning Design.

In his role as Deputy-President James (57) will be responsible for advising the Chamber on construction and training issues, working closely with the City Council, the new skills agency for Scotland and Glasgow Works.

He will also play a key role in communicating how Scottish businesses can maximise the opportunities offered by the Commonwealth Games

Commenting on his new post James said, "Glasgow's always been a vibrant and dynamic business centre and we're about to embark on exciting times as we welcome the government's national sports agency to the city and start to gear up for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

"Glasgow Chamber of Commerce has been much more active in recent years and we really are seeing tangible benefits from its work. There really has never been a better time for companies and individuals to join the Chamber and play a role in shaping the city's economic success - not only with what is already on the ground but with what is being planned."

James was involved in the selection process to choose a new chief executive for Glasgow Chamber, and he welcomed Richard Cairns, previously Glasgow City Council's Head of Economic & Social Initiatives to the post. He said: "Richard's appointment has been widely welcomed in the construction sector."

In his role at akp, James will continue to be responsible for business and people development.
