BONNIE NEW LOOK FOR TOP TOURIST LOCATION

2008

One of Scotland's well known tourist landmarks in Balmaha, Loch Lomond is about to undergo a dramatic facelift by construction company, akp.

The former Highland Way Hotel, in the heart of the village overlooking the shoreline and forming part of the West Highland Way, is to undergo a £4m transformation to make way for the new development.

The area is owned by The McKever Group, Scotland's foremost family hotel chain.  Chairman, Ally McKever, said "This new development is very close to my heart.  I love Loch Lomond and have spent many family holidays here, so I can promise something very special.  The finish will be superb using wood, glass and slate and will tastefully complement the natural beauty of the area".

Demolition work is now finished and the project is scheduled for completion in Easter next year.  Thirteen, 2 and 3 bedroom lodges and one cottage will be created with a luxurious interior spec designed to accommodate the many thousands of tourists who visit the popular location each year. In addition there will be a restaurant with stunning loch views, a bar and banqueting suite suitable for a variety of functions including spectacular weddings.

Ian McEwan, Managing Director, akp Scotland Ltd said, "Despite its size Balmaha is a hugely popular location for both Scottish and international visitors and its position within the West Highland Way is a terrific contributor to its success.  This new leisure facility will provide a great focal point to the shoreline and further enhance the area.  It's also refreshing that in such a green location the design and construction of the project even so far, has been carried out in an environmentally responsible manner".
