Summer Upgrades for School and Colleges Get Top Marks

Independent Scottish construction company, akp Scotland, has delivered five contracts this year already worth £2.6 million in tertiary education and are midway through a further £2.9 million project at St Peter's Primary in Paisley.  This takes its work in the education sector to a new high in the company, bucking the trend of many of its competitors.

This bumper list of contracts includes; the refurbishment and extension of the University of Glasgow's Hetherington Building for languages; Glasgow Nautical College's Tower Building and its Recreational Building; Central College's refectory and classrooms; and Cardonald College's hairdressing and holistic beauty suites along with student and staff areas over four floors.

"Despite the much reported current difficulties in the construction industry, we are still benefitting from a steady flow of education contracts which have very tight timescales and budgets.  We pride ourselves on being able to deliver a full construction and interiors service to fulfill this type of contract and, in doing so, gain education work - time and time again.  Our After Care Manager is also delighting clients with our continuing focus on quality and attention to completion details," said Ian McEwan, Managing Director

Les Paterson, Head of Property and Health & Safety, Central College said, "As part of our commitment to improving facilities and learner services we continued this year in the expansion of Central Café and the continued improvement works to teaching facilities.  This work was completed during the summer recess. akp Scotland was appointed as the main contractor and the work was completed successfully for the students returning.  I want to thank the team for a job well done and particularly the Site Manager Andrew Ferguson and After Care Manager Colin Hamilton for driving the progression of the contract and for the prompt attention to detail on completion."
