akp builds on its reputation for quality and experience in the office refurbishment and fit out sectors with the completed refurbishment of The Beacon, a 9 storey office building in the heart of Glasgow. Built in 1999 and following a previous successful projects for Aviva Life and Pensions we were asked to undertake this project which consisted of the internal refurbishment of floors 1-7 and 9 as well as the ground floor reception, lift lobbies and the enclosed car park within the concrete framed office block.

The BeaconOf the 9 floors, the ground floor, seven and eight were occupied throughout the construction period and this coupled with a short construction period and the logistics associated with a city centre site made the project challenging with our team working very hard to ensure that the occupying tenants’ businesses were not affected during the site activities.

The entire building received a full strip out with the removal of the current tenants’ fixtures and fittings and all M&E as well as the removal of existing WC & IPS/Cubicles and Internal partitions & doors. A new heating and ventilation system was installed and all lighting replaced.  The ceilings were replaced and new carpets installed as well as new access floor tiles.
The lifts and lobbies were fully refurbished and a new bespoke desk created and installed within the reception area as well as the walls being covered with a specialist coloured glass and with the installation of a stainless steel balustrade to the main staircase.

The toilets within the entire building were decorated to a high standard with new corian vanity tops and a walnut veneer cubicle system. The building was fully decorated throughout and new signage commissioned and installed giving the building a new identity.

The site was registered with the Considerate Contractor’s Scheme and the building achieved its aim of a BREEAM “very good” rating.
