The foundation stone for the General Post Office Building was laid by the future King Edward VII on 17 October 1876. When the GPO Building opened in 1878 it was the largest post office building in Scotland. The building’s links to the Post Office (by then known as Royal Mail) ended in 1995.
The proposed scope of works comprises the refurbishment of the communal areas, including the reception and back of house.
The triple height reception has been finished to the highest quality and designed in Bavarian limestone offering an exceptional sense of arrival.
The works include:
- Refurbishment of the existing toilets and lift lobby
- Renewal of mechanical and electrical services to suit the new layout
- Refresh of the reception and entrance area
- New basement cycling & amenity spaces
