akp were pleased to have been engaged as Principal Contractor to complete the second phase of refurbishment works at Cairn Lodge Services including an extension to the petrol filling station.

Located just off the A74 (M) between J11 and J12, the services are owned by Westmorland which runs Tebay on the M6, Rheged and Gloucester on the M5. The family believes passionately in homemade food, supporting artisan producers and inspiring visitors to appreciate the landscape in which their services are rooted.

Cairn Lodge Services has now followed suit with an extensive refurbishment which includes, but was not limited to; the renewal of windows and doors, redecoration throughout, a brand new main kitchen and seating area and completed with a feature fireplace from Italy which was installed along with a children’s soft play and craft area.

The services, which acts as a stopping off point for hundreds of people daily was a challenging environment to work within not only because the recently completed Farmshop, new foyer and change place facilities were to remain open during phase 2 of the refurbishment and fit out.

In order to ensure minimal disruption to staff and visitors like akp held daily meetings with the Services Manager and the wider Westmoreland team to ensure any noisy or potentially disruptive works were programmed in a time when footfall was expected to be at its lowest.
