The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) acquired a 35-year lease on the three Eco Campus Buildings at Hamilton International Park, of circa 25,000sqm. akp were appointed to undertake the Cat B enhancement works and Cat C fit out.

The developer undertook the shell and core and Cat A works together with the construction of a new street atrium to link the three buildings.

The fit out included a comprehensive specialist joinery package which was distributed across the new Eco Campus encompassing all three buildings – Carrick, Dunlee and Edzell.

Work also included new 600m2 gym; 250m2 biomechanics lab; 400m2 archive store; 130m2 Harvard lecture theatre; 100m2 learning lounge; and 70m2 extreme environment lab.

Thereafter the University of the West of Scotland’s Lanarkshire Campus was crowned winner of a prestigious 2019 Guardian University Award which recognises the most sustainable and inspiring higher education buildings in the UK.
