Ian McEwan

Ian is one of the founding directors of akp Scotland and has over 35 years experience in construction management, planning and estimating. Ian’s strategic skills and entrepreneurial flair has shaped the direction of the business while his attentive attitude with clients is well admired and respected in the industry.

Martin McColl

Managing Director

"The business’s growth plans are not focused on simply doing more of the same but on breaking into new markets and geographies too".

Martin spends time overseeing the resourcing, management and monitoring of all site activities and a personal involvement in aspects of the estimating and quality submissions which leave the business

Moira Murdoch

Commercial Director

"We are totally switched on when it comes to the commercial aspects of a job. We have the experience to make sure the project is completed on time and on budget – and always with a happy client".

Moira leads the commercial management of the company and her role includes the implementation and management of our accredited ISO 9001 Quality Management System.

She has over 30 years experience in construction and has worked across public and private sectors. Her diverse career, financial and commercial knowledge plays a significant part in the company.

Stephen Sharpe

Operations Director

"The key to the successful delivery of a project is continually communicating with each client. I like to lead by example and to continually motivate project teams to maintain a high standard of professionalism and quality of workmanship, including encouraging site managing teams to not only meet but exceed client’s goals as often as possible".

Stephen’s principal responsibilities include overseeing contracting operations in respect to project and company performance in meeting targets such as health and safety, customer satisfaction and financial targets. He oversees the preparation of project management plans, establishment and continual review of project programmes, resource management and delivery of projects on site.

Gordon Cairns

Pre-Construction Director

"My role at akp is to engage with clients and consultants at the earliest opportunity and work collaboratively with them through the early, but critical, stages of a project ensuring that all key aspects such as budget, programme and design are co-ordinated in our offering to them, prior to embarking on the build phase. As akp prides itself on repeat business and the ability to negotiate repeatedly with our clients, I also like to stay involved as a point of contact going forward so that pre-construction support can be provided without any barriers or delays in our fast moving work environment.".

With over 30 years of experience in the commercial interiors sector, most of which has been at director level, Gordon oversees business development, bid management, estimating, and project pre-construction activities, ensuring a seamless transition to our project delivery teams.

Away from work, Gordon is a keen golfer, rugby supporter and enjoys spending time with family & friends.

Edith Paterson

Finance Manager & Company Secretary

"The financial aspects of a business are often carried out seamlessly in the background whilst projects are delivered. My team and I have a keen eye for detail which means that akp projects run smoothly and our clients and supply chain are looked after along the way".

Edith handles all finance matters within the business along with managing a team responsible for all contract administrative duties for akp sites.

Phil Mycek

Estimating Manager

"Pricing plays a small part in estimating. Understanding what the client requires and how you approach it takes up the majority".

Phil manages the estimating department, ensuring every tender is thoroughly examined and key staff understand the specification of the works. Phil, along with his team, is responsible for obtaining the best prices for the clients. He has a keen eye for detail and organises his busy schedule efficiently and effectively to ensure tenders are submitted timeously.

Stephen Braid

Insurance Reinstatement & Small Works Manager

"Listening and understanding the Client’s brief together with good communication are key to the successful, safe delivery of top quality Insurance Reinstatement and Small Works projects. Our aim is to deliver on every job we’re involved in".

Stephen oversees the operation of akp’s Insurance Reinstatement and Small Works offering circa £25k – £200k. He draws on over three decades of experience gathered from his time representing global loss adjusters and contractors.

Jim Bain

Senior Project Manager

"Team effort is what makes for a successful project. Yes, a project requires a focused individual at the helm to ensure it stays on programme and meets the budget, but I always think its important to recognise that akp function as a team and the support staff in the office work tirelessly to ensure the sites can operate smoothly".

Jim has been with akp for over 25 years and is the Project Manager who delivered akp’s British Council for Offices (BCO) Award Winning Fit Out of Registers of Scotland new office in St Vincent Plaza. The project won best Fit Out of Workplace in Scotland and went onto win the National award, beating workplace fit out’s across the UK and taking the trophy in this category.

Hugh Wilson

Senior Project Manager

Hugh is a personable, approachable Senior Project Manager and his calm persona provides clients and design teams with the level headed mentality that is required when delivering multi-million pound refurbishment and fit out projects. Having served his time as a tradesman in his early years, that knowledge and experience has stood him in good stead for dealing with challenging projects and allows him to provide innovative solutions to clients in terms of buildability and project delivery.

Mark Smith

Contracts Manager

Mark is one of our most sought after Managers, with clients regularly requesting his involvement in fit out and refurbishment projects. Most recently a project delivered by Mark, the refurbishment of Breckenridge House also known as McLellan Works, was runner up in the British Council for Offices (BCO) Refurbished and Recycled Workplace category.
