This complex and sensitive project comprised of the demolition of the swimming pool structure which was then housed in a new outer shell with feature domed roof. Complex M&E works were undertaken. The new two storey building includes changing rooms, the Pentland fitness suite, new classrooms, medical room, sports hall with viewing gallery. The aim was to create a contemporary sports facility incorporating original 1920’s architectural features.
The building is flooded with natural light through skylights and replacement windows. The original internal brick arches were retained creating features that blend effectively with the new feature staircase. The project was completed within a live school campus environment and continuity of services to the remainder of the school was planned and managed successfully through excellent relations with the client and design team.
